Your website is out there working for you 24/7… But is it really working?
A website that is truly working for you should be attracting your dream clients, bringing in inquiries while you sleep, and making you effortless sales. Is your website doing this, or do you feel like it’s sort of just existing?
For many entrepreneurs, their websites might be working to some extent, but not as much as they’d hoped. And maybe this is how you’re feeling too… You’re ready to have a website that sounds like the best version of you, attracts your dream clients with ease, and is ultimately making you money. Which is why I’m sharing 3 of the most common website copy mistakes that you might be making, AND how you can fix them!
1. Making Your About Page ONLY About Your Client
This might be one of my favorite unpopular opinions to share. So often I hear entrepreneurs being taught to make their About Me Page completely about their dream clients. And while yes, there is value in speaking to them… an About Page should also be about you.
It’s a chance for your dream clients to learn about the things you like, the ways they may relate to you, and to just genuinely get to know you a little bit more. The truth is, most people visiting an About Page aren't looking for another sales pitch – they’re looking for information about YOU.
If you know your About Page could use some love, my blog on how to write an about page will be helpful for you!
2. Over-explaining Everything in Your Website Copy
One of the simplest ways to give your website a major upgrade is to declutter your copy. Take a look at your pages and read them out loud to yourself. If it feels like there’s too many words or any redundancies, this is a good place to start with simplifying your copy.
People can get easily overwhelmed if you explain too much, so try to keep your website copy clear, concise, and still full of your unique personality – which leads me to mistake number 3!
3. Not Adding Personality
If you want a website that makes effortless sales (I mean, who doesn’t?) one of the most important things you can do is ditch the boring, cookie-cutter copy, and infuse your website with more of YOU!
Look at how your pages are currently written. Are they easy to read and do they reflect your brand voice? And if you’re not totally clear on what your brand voice is yet, I recommend taking time to reflect on and find it because it’s an essential part of communicating with your dream clients. My blog, How to Find & Use Your Brand Voice would be helpful in this process!
